Celebrating 15 Years of Collective Action Towards Ed-Equity
Evolution of TAL
Join Chandani Chopra as she leads a compelling discussion on the Teaching as Leadership framework, exploring its origins, impact, and ongoing evolution. In conversation with Stevan Farr, the creator of the framework, and Nalika Braganza, an educator who has benefitted from it during her Fellowship, this session will dive deep into the intersection of teaching and leadership. Discover why Stevan developed this groundbreaking framework, how Nalika and countless other educators have applied it to foster transformational change in their classrooms, and why it remains crucial for educators across the globe. This session will also explore the need for continuous adaptation of the framework to meet the ever-evolving needs of educators and students alike
Venue: Small MPA (6th floor)
Time: 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Steven Farr
Steven Farr, author of Teaching As Leadership: The Highly Effective Teacher’s Guide to Closing the Achievement Gap, leads Teach For America’s efforts to discern what distinguishes teachers whose students in low-income communities achieve dramatic academic growth. He joined staff as vice president of training and support in 2001 and has managed the research and development of a number of Teach For America’s training texts. He has contributed to the development of the Teaching As Leadership framework and rubric, as well as Teach For America’s online resources built around those ideas. Farr taught high school English and English as a second language as a part of the 1993 Teach For America corps in the Rio Grande Valley. Farr is a graduate of the University of Texas’s Plan II Honors program and Yale Law School.

Nalika Braganza
Nalika graduated in English Literature from Sophia College for Women in 2012. Living in Mumbai, she was deeply moved by the stark inequities that shaped the city, compelling her to join the Teach For India Fellowship. Teaching a spirited group of 3rd and 4th graders in Kala Chowky, Mumbai, Nalika shared her love of art, music, and literature, witnessing firsthand the power of education to transform lives. Her two years as a Fellow ignited a belief in the possibility of meaningful change, leading her to join the Mumbai Program Team, where she mentored Fellows and Program Managers in the region. Today, as the head of the Training & Impact team at Teach For India, Nalika’s role spans the entire Fellowship Program. Her team oversees student curriculum, assessment, teacher training, and leadership development—cultivating the capacities of both Fellows and staff across regions.
